[영문]This study was designed to estabilish normal range of AFP levels in maternal and amniotic flued at 9 to 41 weeks of gestation. AFP levels during pregnancy signify the possible index of confirming congenital anomaly of fetus including neural tube
defect such as anencephaly, spina bifida, meningomyelocele.
Total 197 cases were screened for serum AFP levels and 18 cases for amniotic fluid AFP levels from normal pregnant women between 9 and 41 weeks of gestation at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Yonsei University College of medicine from January 1st, 1985 to October 30th, 1985. Enzyme immunoassay was used to
determine the titer of AFP in maternal serum and amniotic fluid.
1. The following results were obtained:
Normal range of maternal serum AFP from 9 to 34 weeks of gestation and median range of amniotic fluid AFP from 16to 41 weeks of gestation were obtained.
2. Maternal sereum levels of AFP were gradually increased from 12 weeks of gestation reaching to maximum at 29 weeks of gestation and AFP levels in amniotic fluid reached to peak value at 17 weeks decreasing there after.
3. The concentration in amniotic fluid AFP was decreased as the pregnancy advances from 17 weeks to 41 weeks and the concentration in maternal seurm AFP was increased as the pregnancy advances from 12 weeks to 34 weeks.
4.Serum AFP levels of mothers who delivered female babies were significantly higher than those of mothers who de-livered male babies.
5. One case of congenital anomaly, teratoma of tongue, was accompanied by high levels of seurm AFP suggesting that sereening of maternal AFP level could be useful to detect congenital anomaly of fetus.
